Cinema Verite (3/3)

My final video turned out pretty good, not as good as I would have wanted it to be though, but I think it's okay for being my first video. My video is about this idea of dreaming and waking up from a dream. The video starts with a door opening to see sky and birds, then it moves into different clips of different places, and at the end the door starts closing as flashbacks of the different places previously seen are shown.

Cinema Verite (2/3)

The first day I started working with Final Cut Pro to edit my video went pretty well and it wasn't as difficult as I thought it would be. I managed to favorite all the parts of my different clips that I wanted to use for my final video as well as change the speed of the clip and add tittles. After getting all the clips that I wanted to use, I went ahead and added a song so that the clips would change to the rhythm of the song. And some of the final touches were adding effects and transitions.

Cinema Verite (1/3)

I think this was a really interesting project because I have never worked with video nor any video editing software before. The hardest thing for me was deciding what to film and coming up with ideas of what to shoot. So instead of overthinking, I decided to film things that I found to be interesting to me. For example, I filmed the sky for 20 minutes to see the movement of the clouds, I filmed the trees outside my house through my window changing the focus of the camera, I filmed what appeared to be stairs going down into the river, and I filmed more trees and lots of nature clips.

Narrative Project Part 2 - Final Image (3/3)

For my final composite, I decided to create a world in which my brother would love to live in. My brother as well as my dog are both flying in a cloud while it's raining legos. I decided to incorporate red and blue legos to keep the image balanced and keep the color scheme consistent. I was originally going to incorporate a yellow lego but this was taking all the emphasis away from the rest of the image. The snow was pretty easy to blend with the cloud since these have almost the same visual texture. I think this was a really fun project and I really like how my composite turned out.

Narrative Project Part 2 - Work in Progress (2/3)

Since I didn't like the photo I was using initially to create my narrative, I decided to use some of the first photographs I took and create something more interesting. 1 2 1+2

Narrative Project Part 2 - First Attempt (1/3)

The second part of our narrative project was to create a different narrative using some of our original photographs and manipulating them in Photoshop. Basically, we had to create a whole different story in which fantasy was the main theme. The image below shows my first attempt in creating a fantasy narrative. For this particular photo, I wanted to have a city emerging from the water and shrink my brother to make it look like he was just entering or discovering a world of giants. However, I didn't really like how it was turning out so I decided to stop there and use another photograph.

Narrative Photography - Final Photo (4/4)

This is the photo I have chosen to represent my entire narrative. It was a bit difficult to get my photos to be "perfect" especially because I have not mastered my skills with the aperture and shutter speed settings and because my brother would not stay still, but I tried my best to get at least good photos. Also, it was kind of hard to decide for just one photo because there were a couple that I really liked, but I finally decided for the one below especially because it shows my brother's curiosity for exploring the natural world around him :)

Narrative Photography - 100 images (3/4)

These are some of the photos I took for my narrative project for which I decided to photograph my little brother while I was taking him for a walk to my favorite place by the river. My idea was to just let him be himself while enjoying the natural world around him. With these series of photos I took, I wanted to show how kids and nature are made for each other. Kids don't care if they get dirty playing in the mud, if they get wet playing in the river, or if they rip their jeans while climbing up a tree. All they care about is exploring this amazing and mysterious environment. They want to connect and interact with this natural world. It's like they find a new toy with every natural element they come across while exploring this environment.

Narrative Photography - Work in Progress (2/4)

Over these last two weekends, I have been practicing taking photographs using my DSLR camera and figuring out how the aperture, the shutter speed, and the ISO work. The following are some photos I took while I was experimenting with the camera.

Narrative Photography - Inspiration (1/4)

For this project, I took inspiration from Cartier Bresson's photo of some kids playing with what has been left of their world during war. I love the way kids are so innocent and the way they can find adventure and fun in anything just like they have done in this photo with that huge whole on the wall.

Logo Design - Final Logo (3/3)

This week I have successfully completed all of my ten logo designs. I really like how they turned out after facing the hardest decision of choosing a color palette and typeface that could go well with the design itself. My final design is the Graphix Design logo for which I decided to go with a gray-scale palette as well as a more simple typeface for the word design because I did not want to take away the emphasis from the word Graphix. When I first started designing this logo using compound shapes, I could not get it together the way I wanted, so I decided to use the Pencil Tool and just draw the logo. Also, I changed the brush stroke to one that creates this kind of thick to thinner stroke because this made the logo look simple but not that simple in a way. I loved working on this project especially because it strengthened some of the skills I already had working with Illustrator. :)

Logo Design - Work in Progress (2/3)

When I first started putting together my logo designs on Illustrator, I was sticking to the idea that they had to look exactly the same as they did on my sketches. However, once I started experimenting with the Pen Tool as well as with the different things you can do with the strokes of a shape, I decided to make my logos look just a little bit different so that they could go well with the chosen color palette as well as with the particular typeface I chose. This is the sketch for the first logo I started working on with Illustrator. This is how the logo turned out the first time. This is the final version.

Getting Started with Illustrator

Last week in class, we learned how to create shapes using the Shape Builder tool, how to manipulate shapes using individual anchor points, and how to create compound shapes utilizing the Pathfinder tool :)

Helvetica Film

Helvetica is a film that explores the reasons why Helvetica has been the most used typeface in the design field. I wasn't aware of this typeface up until my Technical Writing class where my professor explained that Helvetica was the preferred typeface of most designers. I knew Helvetica was the name of a font, but I didn't know this was used in almost everywhere where text is required such as company logos, advertisements, legal documents, etc. The Helvetica film made it clearer for me to see why most designers prefer Helvetica over any other typeface available out there. In the film, it is discussed that Helvetica is most used because it is a more official, clean, and efficient typeface than any other. It is neutral because it doesn't show anything other than simplicity. For example, it was also mentioned how Helvetica is an inviting typeface because it doesn't give the feeling of danger that other fonts would, instead it gives people a feeling of calmness. ...
